Interventions by the maternal and obstetric health specialist nurse in the promotion of physical exercise throughout the pregnancy–postpartum cycle: a scoping review
Abstract: This scoping review aimed to map physical exercise interventions described in the literature and falling within the scope of practice of the maternal and obstetric health specialist nurse throughout the pregnancy–postpartum cycle. The search strategy, structured according to the PCC framework, was applied to electronic databases and limited to the last five years, with predefined inclusion criteria. Thirty-one studies were identified, of which three met the established criteria. The reported interventions focused on pregnancy and labor, including structured exercise programs and active mobility strategies integrated into specialized care. The outcomes described primarily concerned immediate clinical indicators, such as pain, maternal comfort, duration of labor, and control of gestational weight gain. No interventions specifically targeting the postpartum period were identified, revealing still limited scientific production in this domain of specialized nursing practice.
