Nursing, climate change, and sustainability: educational, care, and sociopolitical challenges

Abstract: Climate change has increased risks and inequalities that directly affect human health. In this context, nursing plays a central role in identifying environmental risks and guiding sustainable practices that strengthen health prevention. This study presents a systematic review, conducted according to the PRISMA method, with articles published between 2015 and 2025 in the Scopus and PubMed databases, with the objective of analyzing the strategic role of nursing in the face of climate challenges. The analysis was organized into three axes: education, professional practices, and sociopolitical action. The results show gaps that hinder the consolidation of curricula aligned with sustainability. In health services, the environmental awareness of professionals is recognized, but institutional barriers limit sustainable actions. In the sociopolitical field, its relevance in promoting environmental equity stands out. The synthesis indicates that integrating qualified education, sustainable practices, and sociopolitical engagement is essential to strengthen the contribution of nursing to planetary health.
